With an eye toward self-improvement and improvements on a teamwide basis, the Wallkill Valley High School baseball program is well prepared for the 2026 season.

The Rangers are scheduled to open the season with a road game at Kittatinny on Monday, March 30. Their home opener is scheduled for April 1 also versus Kittatinny.

“Our team goals include competing for a North Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Freedom Division championship after being moved up a Division, competing for an (NJSIAA) North 1 Group 1 Section title after falling in the Section championship 1-0 last season and make it to the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex semifinal,’’ Wallkill Valley head coach Connor Kopnik said.

Key returning players to the varsity lineup include Tyler Haberstroh (senior, pitcher and shortstop), Ryan Miller (senior, pitcher and outfield), Jack Tucker (sophomore, catcher and utility player), Dylan Miller (sophomore, pitcher and utility player), Alex Opilla (junior, pitcher and infielder) and Luca Rastello (junior, pitcher and first base).

Among the promising newcomers to the varsity lineup this spring for the Rangers are Brady Connolly (junior, infielder and pitcher), Connor Duffy (freshman, first base and third base) and Cody Cook (freshman, outfielder and infielder).

“Tyler Haberstroh and Ryan Miller are the two main leaders on our team,’’ Kopnik said. “Tyler and Ryan lead by example and help raise the standard that our coaching staff at Wallkill Valley is trying to set. This is my third year as head coach and Tyler and Ryan have grown so much as athletes, but more importantly young men. They truly see the vision and have put in the work to raise the standard around them.’’

The Rangers posted a strong 17-7 record last season. They also advanced to the NJSIAA North 1 Group 1 championship round in 2025.

Wallkill Valley competes in the NJAC Freedom Division with Hackettstown, Vernon, Kittatinny, Jefferson and High Point.

“We have very high hopes this season to be a contender in the Division and maybe surprise some teams,’’ Kopnik said. “High Point and Vernon both come back after sharing the division last year. A young Hackettstown team gets another year of experience under their belt, and Jefferson and Kittatinny may have lost some seniors, but they always put together strong teams.’’
