Hardyston Board of Education candidate Ellis Marples passed away Saturday, Oct. 18 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 81.

“Ellis remained a fierce champion for Hardyston’s children until his final days, even campaigning from his hospital bed following heart surgery,” said Hardyston resident Donna Carey. “His commitment to the Kids First ticket and his endorsement of Jack Ciattarelli (for governor) reflected his unwavering dedication to our township’s future.”

Marples will remain on the ballot.

“The election will take place as planned and his name will remain on the ballot as people have started voting,” said Sussex County Deputy Clerk Angela Rosa. “If he were to get elected, it would be up to the school board to determine how the vacancy would be filled.”
