Wallkill Valley softball rallies past Sussex Tech

Hamburg. Wallkill Valley Regional High School scored five runs in the seventh inning to defeat Sussex County Technical School, 9-7, as Alexy Weaver led the comeback with four hits while Wallkill Valley teams added strong performances across baseball, tennis and golf.

Alexy Weaver went 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs and a run, Tara Anderson was 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple, two RBI and two runs and Madison Molta was 3-for-4 with a run as the Wallkill Valley High softball team rallied to defeat Sussex Tech, 9-7, on Thursday, April 2, in Sparta.

Joley Motter singled, walked twice, stole a base, drove in two RBI and scored and Cassie Pallay singled and scored twice to aid the decision that saw the Lady Rangers score five times in the top of the seventh to rally from a 7-4 deficit.

In its season-opening game on March 31, Wallkill Valley hammered 18 hits and rolled to a four-inning 25-0 win over Dover at home.

Anderson was 3-for-3 with a home run, six RBIs and four runs and Joley Motter went 2-for-2 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs to pace the offense.

Jacinda DeSino (two innings, five strikeouts, no walks) and Motter (two innings, six strikeouts, no walks) combined on a no-hitter.

The Lady Rangers (2-0) will play host to Kittatinny on Thursday, April 9, at 4 p.m. before playing at Morristown-Beard on Friday, April 10, at 4:15 p.m.

Baseball

Wallkill Valley struck for 12 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a seven-run deficit and earn a 15-13 victory over Blair Academy in Hamburg.

The offense was keyed by Luca Rastello (3-for-4, two RBIs, run), Brady Connolly (2-for-4, two RBIs, two runs), Dylan Miller (2-for-5, two RBIs, run) and Tyler Haberstroh (1-for-5, two RBI, run).

Wallkill Valley (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday - a 6-4 setback to Midland Park - at home.

Connolly singled in two runs and Alex Opilla singled, stole two bases, drove in a run and scored in the loss.

The Rangers will play at Secaucus on Friday, April 10 at 4 p.m.

Boys Tennis

Jeremy Rockwell (first singles), Marcel Woloslk (second singles), Daniel DeFinis (third singles) and Tristen Askew and Luke Nathan (first doubles) each won their respective flights in straight sets and Josh Muro and Kajeton Lackosz (second doubles) won by forfeit as Wallkill Valley won for the first time this spring with a 5-0 victory over Hopatcong on March 26 in Hamburg.

The Wildcats (1-1) will next play on Tuesday, April 14 against Kittatinny at 3:30 p.m. at home.

Boys Golf

The Rangers claimed the top six spots, led by Alekos Reinle’s 36, to post a 149-178 victory over High Point on March 31 at Cascades-Crystal Springs Golf Course in Hamburg.

Rounding out the Rangers’ contingent were Scottie Weiss (37), Patrick Garafano (38), Zachary Vierzchalek (38), Cayden Collins (39) and Nolan Murphy (39).

Wallkill Valley (4-0) will have its next match against Sparta on Monday, April 13, at Lake Mohawk Golf Course in Sparta at 3:30 p.m.

Girls Golf

Lily Geuther shot a match-low 48, followed by Chloe Geuther (49) and Sierra Jenkins (58) as Wallkill Valley defeated Sparta, 222-254, on March 26 at Cascades-Crystal Springs Golf Course in Hamburg.

Also starring for the Lady Rangers were Isabella Lorenc (67), Madelynn Dick (68) and Sierra O’Rourke (72).

Wallkill Valley (3-0) will meet Sparta again on Monday, April 13, at Cascades-Crystal Springs at 3 p.m.
