Jethro Tull guitarist to highlight band’s history
SUSSEX COUNTY. Sparta’s summer concert series begins Friday evening. Street Hassle will be at the Stanhope House on Saturday.
As we gear up to celebrate Independence Day, get your groove on and mark your calendars for a weekend filled with live music all around the county.
Start Thursday night, June 29 at Krogh’s, 23 White Deer Plaza, Sparta, with Scott Heath’s Hardcases. From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Heath will perform a solo acoustic set while he circles through his “hardcases” for instrument changes.
At the Newton Theater, 234 Spring St., Jethro Tull’s guitarist Martin Barre brings his show “A Brief History of Tull” to town.
Barre’s virtuoso playing landed him a Grammy in 1989 and the 25th spot for the best solo ever in the USA for his performance on the famous “Aqualung.”
Featuring Dan Crisp on vocals, Barre will dazzle the audience with his guitar skills and powerful band. The show will start at 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at https://skypac.org/martin-barre/
High-energy rock duo the Harrisons will play at the Lafayette House, 75 Route 15, from 6 to 9 Friday night, June 30.
Also, starting at 6 p.m. at the Alibi Beach Bar, singer-songwriter Bronwen Yoncak will perform.
At Krogh’s, Brian Fitzpatrick will play his originals mixed with familiar covers from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Hitting the stage at the Stanhope House from 7 to 11:30 p.m. are the D.C.-based rock ‘n’ soul band, Oh He Dead. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Kicking off the Sparta Arts summer concert series at Dykstra Park, 4 Mohawk Ave, from 7 to 10 p.m. are Dustin Douglas & the Electric Gentlemen.
Their fusion of roots music and heavy rock preserves the traditional blues spirit while captivating a new generation. Admission is free.
At Brick & Brew, 27 Route 23, Franklin, Down 2 Earth will jam starting at 8 pm.
Spend your Saturday, July 1 out on the town!
Start at the Sparta Farmers Market, 89 S. Sparta Ave., and listen to the indie folk sounds of Erika Sherger while you shop for local food and artisan crafts.
At 6 p.m., head to the Alibi Beach Bar for cover songs by the Comment Section.
At Brick & Brew, JP and Kyle of the PS Xperiment will be playing hits starting at 8 p.m.
At 9 p.m., the Stanhope House will showcase Street Hassle, a band known for its impressive horn section, featuring musicians who shared the stage with such legends as Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Southside Johnny. Admission is free.
Relax to Sunday jazz on the Krogh’s roof top, also known as the Krogh’s Nest, on July 2. Philly’s Dirk Quinn, founder of the Dirk Quinn Band, will play his jazz-funk tracks from 1 to 4 p.m.
Back at Krogh’s on Thursday, July 6, June Star of Baltimore will take the stage. From 6:30 to 9:30, audiences will be delighted with a night of Americana roots tunes featuring the rich baritone vocals of Andrew Grimm and Dave Haley on pedal steel.
