Sussex County History Day
A&E. The public is invited to view the 27th Regiment of the NJ Volunteer Infantry encampment and the Long Hill String Band on Sept. 21, 2019, at the field across from the Sussex County Historical Society Hill Museum.
The Sussex County Historical Society announces that the 2019 Sussex County History Day and Old Newton Burial Ground Tour will be held at 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the field behind 75 and 79 Main Street, Newton, directly across the street from the Sussex County Historical Society Hill Museum.
The public is invited to view the 27th Regiment of the New Jersey Volunteer Infantry encampment and the Long Hill String Band playing tunes of the Civil War era. Historical Societies and Civic organizations will discuss local Sussex County. The historical displays, Long Hill String Band and the New Jersey 27th Regiment Civil War encampment display are free. There is a charge to take the Old Newton Burial Ground tour.
Costumed interpreters will describe the lives of some of the residents of the Burial Ground. Each tour is limited to 20 people, and costs $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, veterans and children 12-18 years old. One-hour tours begin at noon, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. All proceeds are for upkeep the Burial Grounds.So far, the participants for History Day are:
