Thank you to a departed friend

After building my house in the 1950s, I decided to replace the roof with slate. When i found that the price of new slate was out of my range, I decided to look for used slate.

While riding along the Delaware on a Sunday afternoon, I found an abandoned 400-room hotel, which had a full slate roof. I had just stopped when a park ranger came along and also stopped to inquire as to my motives. He informed me that the building was scheduled for demolition on Monday morning, unless I knew someone whom I could contact.

I immediately came home, arriving at 2 p.m. and called my friend and neighbor and told him the story, and his response was, "give me 15 minutes and I will call you back."

Fifteen minutes later the phone rang. It was my neighbor, who said, "the project will be held up until you get your slate."

Thank you, Bob Littell, a great friend and neighbor for many years. May you rest in peace.
