Franklin council makes left turn onto busy highway

Last week, the New Jersey Herald had an article about Franklin hiring a full-time zoning officer and giving 10 percent raises. I have heard a lot of people grumbling around town about this article and rightly so. A metaphor that would describe Franklin council's actions is when you are making a left turn on to a busy highway and at some point you just say "I'm going for it", and smash the pedal down as fast as you can zooming out into traffic. That's how they spend money. Nick Giordano 's memorable comment for hiring the zoning officer is "there is grass that isn't mowed." It sounds like he wants the zoning officer to drive around with a ruler measuring everybody's lawns. That's money well spent. We wouldn't want the police tripping over the neighbor's lawn as they are giving Narcan to the heroin addicts.

(I really hope you guys give Rowett a fair shake in your paper. As a 'Democrat' she has little chance in Republicanville but let's face it, either is just a label to get on the ballot. At least she has a vested interest in becoming mayor). The article said McHose still drawing two salaries. Oh, but she's quitting the Assembly ,.... eventually. That was another memorable comment. Sure she is. Must be nice. 10 percent raises? That is just right in our faces. Why couldn't they make it 5 percent now 5 percent later, at least make it "appear "like they are not putting the screws to us. One of them said over 100 foreclosures in Franklin. Certainly not a surprise, I hate to tell everybody, taxes are so high, we are renting our houses from Franklin anyway. We own nothing. I personally pay almost $800 a month in taxes for a glorified shed built by the Zinc Company. Why are taxes so high? Nobody ever asks that, they just accept it. I invite everybody to get on their smartphones and download the Zillow app and take a look at what their friends and relatives pay in neighboring towns and states. You might be unpleasantly surprised how much we pay for comparable living. Other places are not this high. They have the same services we do. Some have more. Historically gas is cheap here. Commodities don't cost more here than other places, and we still can't throw out our TVs! But you better have the grass cut for the crack addicts. Maybe the high grass is hiding the television sets? Where is Boss Hogg when we need him? Alive and well I see.
