Young Kiwanis members get involved in the community
Vernon Matt McNally, Mike Springer, Domenic DiMatteo, Mike Merics, Martin Springer and Julia Brensinger, of the Kiwanis Aktion Club, planted trees at Vernon’s firehouse on Saturday, April 4. They were part of a larger project undertaken by the NJ District of Kiwanis International, who all recognized Kiwanis One Day. Other activities will go on throughout April. Kiwanis members say they intend to plant more trees later this month in memory of Toni Allen, who they describe as an “icon” of the Vernon community. Vernon’s Kiwanis also sponsor other clubs including the Key Club at Vernon High, Builders Club at Glen Meadow School and K-Kids at Lounsberry Hollow School selling “Chicks for Kids” this week. The Chicks are placards with pictures of chicks on them that the students selling for $1 and then display in the school hallways. All proceeds from this promotion go to Vernon families in need.
