Young DJ keeps the beat

High POINT — A girl’s first formal should be special and fun. And what better way to get both than at the Father-Daughter Dance open to area residents and hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency? On Friday, April 16, the Merriam Avenue School in Newton was the perfect setting where the duos danced the night away. The daughters ranged from kindergarten to third grade and their fathers were not allowed to turn down any invitation to dance. Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon and case manager Stephanie Sumpman were two of the people from Project Self-Sufficiency who organized the event with help from Kittatinny High School Cheerleaders and the Newton High School Interact Club. High Point High School student Zack Both was the DJ that kept the beat going. From having the group form a circle to do the “YMCA” and “Hokey Pokey” to inspiring folks to boogie down with “Celebration” and jitterbugging to the Beatles, he kept the smiles on their faces and laughter in the air. The special evening ended with “Butterfly Kisses.” While this is the third dance they have sponsored, the Family Success Center at Project Self-Sufficiency made this their First Annual Father-Daughter Dance.
