Young Author's event set

Lafayette — Sussex County students from kindergarten through high school, and interested adults, are invited to register now for the 18th Annual Young Author’s Conference to be held on Saturday, April 24 at Lafayette Township School in Lafayette, from 9 a.m. to noon. The conference is an opportunity for budding writers to share their work with other students and friends, as well as to expand their skills by participating in hands-on workshops conducted by literacy educators. It’s also a chance to hear a professional children’s author and illustrator share his or her own creative process, path to publication and creative inspiration with up-and-coming writers. The Northwest Jersey Reading Council, a professional organization for teachers, administrators, and parents interested in promoting literacy, sponsors this event. This year’s featured presenter is Trinka Hakes Noble, a nationally recognized author/illustrator of books. Her latest book, “The New Jersey Reader,” pays homage to the “Garden State,” the state where Noble resides. It showcases the state’s rich heritage and natural charms as well as its prominent place in history. Local writer Raymond Frey will address the adult session and former Lafayette school teacher and author, Dorothy Callahan, will also speak to the younger attendees. Cost for the half-day conference is $10 per person, which includes registration materials and a snack; or $18 per person if the registrant would also like a commemorative conference T-shirt to take home that day. Books will be available for purchase and autographing by this year’s featured author, along with a book fair offering participants many other books of interest. Registration is underway. Participants must register by April 5. For more information, call Marg Anderson at 973-729-3904 or Anne Lajeunesse at 973-300-9292.
