VERNON — Fifty-three world language students from Vernon Township High School were inducted into the French, German, Italian and Spanish honor societies during four individual candle-lighting ceremonies that were conducted entirely in those languages. Vito Galati, the school’s world language supervisor, congratulated the inductees and noted that their success was due to “the support from their parents, the teachers who inspire them, the students themselves for their dedication and commitment to learning, and finally, the support of the Vernon Township Board of Education, the administration, and the community who understand the importance of a strong world languages program in today’s global society.” The 53 students earned membership into the World Language Honor Societies by maintaining an 87 average for two and a half consecutive years in either French, German, Italian or Spanish, and by committing to study their chosen language through their senior year.
