Vernon schools announce initiatives
VERNON TOWNSHIP-Vernon superintendent of schools Anthony J. Macerino said there are a number of youth and education initiatives underway in the township. The Vernon Education Foundation, Inc., has been organized by a group of citizens to foster, promote and enhance traditional and innovative approaches for excellence in education and to encourage community-wide interest in and support of Vernon Township public schools. The foundation is operated strictly by community members and business partners and not the school district. Officers include Vernon Township High School alumnus Brad D. Sparta, president; Vernon Township retired resident Walter Czachorowski, vice president; Vernon Township parent, recreation and PAL director Pat Seger, treasurer; and Vernon Township parent Debra Zimmerman. For information, call 764-2900; or visit foundation@vtsd.com. The Vernon Township Kiwanis is a new organization aimed at supporting the youth of the community as well as endeavors. The group meets 7:30 a.m., the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, at Vernon Township High School. The Vernon Township Kiwanis assisted two new student organizations, the Builders Club at Glen Meadow Middle School, and the Key Club at Vernon Township High School.
