Vernon Police
February 22 At 1:45 p.m. Vernon police officers Edward Lazicki and Robert Kulawiak responded to the Great Gorge Village Condos for a report of a vehicle off the roadway. The investigation revealed that an automobile operated by Colleen M. Pina, 53, of Vernon, ran off the road and became stuck on bushes and saplings. Pina was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was uninjured in the accident Pina was suspected of driving while intoxicated and failed roadside sobriety tests at the scene. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she failed several breathalyzer tests. Pina was charged with careless driving and driving while intoxicated. She was released pending a municipal court appearance. Pina's vehicle was towed and held for 12 hours as required by state law. February 24 The Vernon Police responded to a two car head-on collision on County Road 515. The investigation revealed a 1990 ford pick-up truck which was being operated by Jan C. Heyboer of Park Ridge failed to keep right and struck a 1988 G.M.C. pick-up truck being driven by Joseph Spinella of Downsville N.Y. Spinnella was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Glenwood Pochuck Ambulance squad with chest trauma. St. Claires Paramedics were on scene and assisted Glenwood Pochuck Ambulance Squad. Heyboer and his 17-year-old male passenger were trapped in their vehicle and the Vernon Township Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to free them from the vehicle. Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to St. Claires-Sussex by the Vernon Township Ambulance Squad. County Road 515 was closed in both directions for approximately one hour causing delays.
