Vernon cheerleaders take to the field for a cause

VERNON Football is not done at Vernon Township High School when the season is over. This year the cheerleaders and players held the second annual Powder Puff Football Game for charity. In a complete role reversal, the cheerleaders, Teams White and Blue, faced off at the 50-yard line with flags in their pockets to battle for possession of the ball while the football players traded in their shoulder pads for pom-poms and spurred the fierce competitors on from the sidelines. The novice cheerleaders also entertained the crowd at half-time with their new tricks, such as the somewhat wobbly giant pyramid. All of the proceeds from the game go to a local family in need. The coaches Bob Wise, Dick Wetzel, Brian McCarthy and Bill Panfile say they were impressed with all of the participants skill and gamesmanship and appreciate the community support of a good cause.
