Trainings offered by Red Cross
Newton The American Red Cross is offering trainings for those who want to be prepared in the event of an emergency but do not need the certifications of a professional: On Saturday, Dec. 5, an Adult CPR/AED course will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The course imparts the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies, perform CPR, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The fee is $50. On Tuesday, Dec. 8, a First Aid course will be offered from 6 to 10 p.m. This course is intended to teach lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. The fee is $45. On Saturday, Dec. 12 a Babysitter’s Training course is being offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Babysitter’s Training course has a unique interactive, educational format that tasks youth, ages 11 to 15 years of age, with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care. The fee for this course is $65. On Wednesday, Dec. 16, an Infant and Child CPR class will be offered from 8:30am-1pm. Attendees will learn the skills needed to provide care for infants and children in the case of breathing emergencies, and perform CPR. The fee is $55 0 In addition, the Red Cross is offering a CPR/AED for the health care provider/professional rescuer course. This course teaches the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Topics of this class include important skills from properly removing disposable gloves to the accurate use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) in cardiac arrest and while CPR is in progress, as well as hands on skills and practice and includes a consolidated full color manual. The class will be held over two nights, Monday, Jan. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. both nights, at a cost of $80 per person. A pocket mask is required for this class. Participants can bring their own or can arrange to purchase one through the American Red Cross ($15) at the time of their registration. Call today - space is limited.
