Think Big: Group aims to empower women business owners
Sparta Sparta New Jersey women can now participate in BIG (Believe, Inspire, Grow), “an empowering and inspiring business organization,” designed as a way for “women to empower women to business.” Sparta resident Nina Frye has become a BIG leader. Frye will host monthly meetings with area women to discuss relevant business ideas, share insights and brainstorm ways to overcome their obstacles. The group utilizes face-to-face community meetings, an interactive Web site and monthly teleconferences to assist women, many of whom have been out of the workforce for several years or seek a change in their current careers, by providing them with a positive and educational support network to help move their business ideas forward, according to group officials. “I am excited to share this great opportunity with the women of Sussex County,” said Frye. “As an entrepreneur, myself, I know first hand the many struggles and challenges that face women who desire to make economic contributions, without sacrificing their important family commitments. BIG provides the resources and infrastructure to allow us to overcome our business challenges and work toward success.” Founded in September 2009 in Bernardsville by former Sussex County resident and Pope John High School graduate Tara McKenzie Gilvar, BIG has been rapidly expanding to communities throughout New Jersey. This fall, over 15 local community groups, known as “pods,” are expected to be launched throughout the state and expansion is planned to communities nationwide beginning in 2010. The BIG Sparta pod meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month, at the Sparta Ambulance Building beginning at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required to attend all meeting.
