Teens: It's time to Get Real! @ your library'
OAK RIDGE-Area teens will be reading for the fun of it as the Jefferson Township Public Library celebrates the eighth annual Teen Read Week, Oct. 16 n 22. Hundreds of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country will be encouraging teens to celebrate this year’s theme, “Get Real! @ your library®.” The theme urges teens to explore the world of nonfiction books, such as biographies, self-help books, strange-but-true stories, and more. Jefferson librarian Christine O’Brien feels it is important to encourage teens to set aside time for reading, as they seem to have less and less free time and more and more structured activities. She hopes to get teens into the library to participate in a “Who’s Really ?” quiz, and to receive a “Get Real” bookmark and, of course, some candy. Quizzes answered correctly will be entered into a drawing for two cool, black, “READ” T-shirts, and free movie passes. Parents of teens are encouraged to celebrate Teen Read Week at home. O’Brien suggests parents visit the library with their teen, to attend a program or check out books, or give books or magazine subscriptions to their teen as a gift or a reward. She also suggests sharing a favorite book or surfing the Internet together to learn about new books and authors. The Jefferson Township Public Library is located at 1031 Weldon Rd.
