Area high school students had the opportunity to view demonstrations and participate in seminars and activities at the Teens Arts Festival. The all-day event was held on March 16 at the Sussex County Community College Campus. SCCC students helped with hands-on demonstrations and guiding the high school students around the campus. In addition to the art on display, there were demonstrations and seminars in dance, theater, poetry, pottery, theatrical make-up application, origami, storytelling, magic and improvisational song writing. An added bonus was the return of Teen Arts alumna Cassidy Catanzaro. The singer, song writer, actress, writer and online magazine editor taught seminars in breaking into the music business and song writing. She encouraged students to be independent in the industry. “It’s not about fame but longevity,” Catanzaro said. “There’s something powerful about owning your own lyrics.” “As a professional who has returned to her roots in Teen Arts, Cassidy created a lot of excitement and was an inspiration to the county teen singers, songwriters and musicians. I remember Cassidy as a very talented teen, so it was wonderful to work with her again but this time as a professional,” said Teen Arts Coordinator Stella Trikouros. Jacquelyn Burt of Pope John Regional High School’s Musical Theatre Department summed up the day, “We are honored at the very warm reception all of the students were given, and the excellent feedback and seminars. We look forward to seeing you next year.”
