Sussex County runners participate in Disney Marathon touring parks

ORLANDO, FLA. — On Sunday, Jan. 11, Kittatinny High School cross country and track coach Guy Gordon and his wife, Straus Newspaper reporter Laurie Gordon, led a large contingency of Sussex County Runners who competed in the Disney World Marathon in Orlando, Fla. Guy Gordon led the way running 2:59:22 to place third in the Masters Category and 68th overall out of 22,485. Laurie Gordon, a former Olympic Trial Qualifier, placed 700th overall running 3:33:33. This was her first marathon in six years. Other Sussex County Athletes who competed include: Evan Xenaxis of Sparta who ran 3:44:00 and came in 1096. Adhikari Khusbu of Branchville, who ran a 3:56 and placed 1772. Michelle Hul of Branchville- who ran a 4:29:11 and placed 4164, Bill Sansone of Newton who ran a 4:39:38 and came in 5074, Angela Paternostro who ran a 4:52:31 and placed 6204, Roger Neibuhr of Vernon who ran a 5:13:00 and placed 8085, Joe Farinelli of Newton who ran a 5:28 and placed 9389 and Michael Morby of Sparta who ran a 5:49:05 and placed 10976. The 26.2-mile course toured all of Disney World’s theme parks including Epcot, Magic Kingdon, Animal Kingdom, Disney Sports Complex and Hollywood Studios. Finishers received a gold Mickey Mouse medal.
