Sussex Borough news briefs
Brookside Park contract awarded Sussex June 15 is the deadline for work to be finished at Brookside Park. In keeping with a demand by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which offered funding to the borough for repairs to the park, this job needs to be complete by that date. The borough’s mayor and council called an emergency meeting on May 12 to authorize a contract for work and ultimately gave the formal go-ahead on May 18. Contractor Robert W. Wogisch of Ringwood will complete the rehabilitation work at a cost of $24,996. Water tank painting project gets nod Sussex The borough awarded a $591,000 contract to U.S. Tank Painting Inc. to paint and renovating the two borough-owned water tanks. The project will be funded through bonds previously authorized by the borough in two separate segments. The first was issued in September 2009 for $1.1 million, but will be offset by a $382,000 grant from the federal EPA. The second bond, for $150,000, was passed last month. Half of the money is repayable interest free; the balance at 1 percent interest. All are due over a 20-year period. Water service customers “are expected to pay approximately $14.54 per quarter based on water usage,” to cover the loans, Gleason said. Engineering contract accompanies painting job Sussex In addition to the painting project, Hatch Mott McDonald was also awarded a contract, not to exceed $30,000, to oversee the project on behalf of the borough. “Normally the engineering fee is 10 percent of the project estimates,” said Mayor Chris Parrott. “The engineer is charging far less because supervision is not required daily,” Parrott added. A project start date has not been determined.
