Sparta —Students in five teams from Hilltop Country Day School in Sparta traveled to Kent Place School in Summit for the annual Battle of the Books competition. The seventh grade team won first place earning a perfect score. The eighth grade team placed second in the tournament. The Battle of the Books is a state-wide reading incentive program designed to encourage children to read and have fun while reading books. Each year, 15 books are selected by a committee of New Jersey librarians for three different grade levels: 3/4, 5/6 & 7/8. Hilltop Country Day School has been participating in this program since 1999. Hilltop librarian, Nan Katzenbach, is the Sussex County coordinator for the Battle of the Books program.
