Wantage — High Point Regional High School English teacher Carolyn Acker’s Literature of the Holocaust and Genocide class recently participated in the “The Red Hand Campaign” to stop the use of child soldiers in armed conflicts around the world. The goal of the campaign is to collect red hands, each containing a message and a signature, and to present them to the United Nations on Red Hand Day. Acker’s class, with the help of additional students from other classes, created red handprints during their first period class. The handprints were available for students and teachers to sign at the student council desk during all lunch periods. The class collected 403 hands to send to the United Nations.
