Students study farming and seeds

Judy Pierce’s second grade class at Franklin Borough School has completed a unit of study on farming and seeds. The students learned the parts of a seed, their function, and the types of plants into which each will germinate. The class planted lima bean seeds, grew radishes on cotton balls, and put celery stalks into blue colored water. With daily observations, the students were amazed as the green celery stalk changed to a bluish hue. As a culminating activity, Pierce’s class designed and created three-dimensional farms by using construction paper, crayons, and shoe boxes. Pictured is William Ferraro.
