Wallkill Valley graduates succeeding in college athletics
Hamburg. Several Wallkill Valley Regional High School graduates are contributing across college programs this fall.
As the weather gets colder, the action in the world of college sports is starting to heat up-and there are Wallkill Valley Regional High School graduates who are making names for themselves for all the right reasons in their chosen athletic endeavor.
Julie Murphy is a senior for the Montclair State University women’s cross country program this season. Montclair State placed first in the team scoring at the Herb Lorenz Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey in Ewing in September. On Saturday, November 15 the Red Hawks are scheduled to participate in the NCAA Metro Regional Championship Meet hosted by Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. Murphy is listed as a Business Administration major.
Erick Vargas is a junior midfielder for the Felician University men’s soccer side this year. Vargas played in 12 of the first 13 regular season games and started in seven of them for Felician. He had two goals and three assists during that span.
Through Oct. 25, the Golden Falcons posted an overall record of 6-4-3 with a mark of 4-3-1 on their home field. In the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) they were 3-3-1. On Wednesday, Nov. 5 Felician is scheduled to travel to face Caldwell University in a CACC matchup. Vargas is listed as an Exercise Sports Science major.
Chris Carey is a junior tight end for The College of New Jersey (Ewing) football program this fall. Carey competed in four of the first seven regular season games for TCNJ.
Through Oct. 31, the Lions had an overall record of 6-1 including a 3-0 record at home and a mark of 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). On Nov. 14, the Lions are slated to welcome Christopher Newport for an NJAC game. Carey is listed as a Kinesiology and Health Sciences major.
Hannah Posser is a junior competitor for the William Paterson University women’s tennis squad this season. Through Oct. 25, Posser had a victory in doubles competition. The Pioneers had one team win through October. Posser is listed as a Psychology and Early Childhood Education major.
