Locals play in all-star game

Seamus Hughes of Vernon High School and Marko Bakovic of Wallkill Valley High School were chosen to represent their schools in the 23rd Annual Paul Robeson East West Classic All-Star game.
They played for the West team, which is comprised of players from Sussex, Morris and parts of Warren and Passaic Counties on Monday, June 13 at Robeson Stadium in East Orange. The East won the game, 16-12.
The East All-Stars scored on its opening drive of the game when Orange High School Meril Zero capped an 8-play, 55-yard drive, when he got in the end zone from seven yards out. After the successful extra point, the East led 7-0. After the West had a quick three-and-out, they managed to get the ball back. Dover's Dwayne Brown ran for four yards. On the next play, Wallkill Valley quarterback Marko Bakovic connected with Pope John's Sekayi Rudolph for a 19-yard gain and a new set of downs. Rudolph followed with three consecutive rushes and gained eight yards.
On fourth down, Bakovic connected with Hopatcong's Jake Dorman in the corner of the end zone to score the first touchdown for the West All-Stars.
The East All-Stars scored as time expired in the third quarter. Later, in the fourth quarter Montville quarterback Graham Jespersen connected on four passes and ran on a option play from three yards out and into the end zone to bring the West within four points.
Marko Bakovic was named the Offensive MVP for the West and Samari Robinson from Morristown was named the Defensive MVP for the West.
