Jefferson Rec offers summer sports programs

    OAK RIDGE — The Jefferson Township Recreation Department, in association with the US Sports Institute, will offer several sports programs this summer for boys and girls ages 3 to 14, all abilities.

    Every participant will receive a free t-shirt and certificate from USSI. Sessions will take place at either the Chamberlain Road Recreation Complex at 48 Chamberlain Road off Berkshire Valley Road, Milton/Oak Ridge or at the Lakeside Recreation Complex at 15 Swan Lane off Route 15 South, Lake Hopatcong as noted.

    Multi Sports —Total Play
    USSI offers children the opportunity to play up to 16 different sports from around the world delivered by professional, international coaches in a fun and relaxed atmosphere to develop both skill and character. Sports covered include baseball, basketball, cricket, flag football, hockey, handball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, touch rugby and much more.

    The session is July 7 through July 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for children ages 5 to 7 p.m. at Chamberlain Field.

    The fee is $80 per child.
    Total Sports Quirts

    This class is ideal for the children who want to try their hand at a little of everything, allowing them to experience a new sport every day of the week. Participants have the opportunity to try lacrosse, soccer, basketball, t-ball, color hockey, parachute games and more in a safe, fund and structured environment. Sessions are July 7 through July 11 from 9-10 a.m., or 10:15-11:15 a.m., or 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for children ages 3 to 5 at Lakeside Field.

    Another session will take place from 4:15-5:15 pm at Chamberlain Field.

    Each session’s fee is $80 per child.

    T-ball Squirts
    T-Ball Squirts focuses on the fundamental skills of the game including hitting, throwing, catching and running the bases. The progressive curriculum enables each child to develop their skills and understanding of the game. The session is July 7-11 from 3-4 p.m. for children ages 3-5 at Chamberlain Field.

    The fee is $80 per child.
    Tennis Squirts: Parent & Me

    A fun-filled learning adventure that introduces children to the world of tennis. This USSI program offers a variety of games and activities to maximize participation, increase success, and promote learning, all while having fun with the help of mom and dad. Following USTA guidelines, children will develop their tennis strokes, using the highly appraised 10 and Under Tennis model.

    Session is from Aug. 11-15 from 4-4:50 p.m. for children ages 3-5 at Chamberlain Field.

    The fee is $80 per child.
    First Play Tennis

    USSI First Play Tennis programs provide an opportunity for players of all ages to learn real tennis. Following developmental curriculums and guidelines laid out by the USTA’s QuickStart Tennis format, participants will learn the basic fundamentals in stroke production, court movement and footwork skills, and experience success from start to finish.

    Players must provide their own racket. Session is Aug. 11-15 from 5 to 7 p.m. for children 5-14 years of age at Chamberlain Field.

    Fee is $115 per child.
