College sports wrapup

    Brian Mills, a graduate of Vernon High School, was a senior midfielder for the Kean University (Union, N.J.) men’s lacrosse program this past season. Mills played in all 16 games for Kean and tied for the team lead with 34 goals. He also tallied 12 assists.
    The Cougars finished with an overall record of 8-8, which included three wins at home. They were 5-4 in Skyline Conference competition. They advanced to the Skyline Conference Tournament where they fell in the first round to Farmingdale State College in a contest played in Farmingdale, N.Y.
    Samantha Drew (Vernon High School) was a freshman goalkeeper for the Kean University women’s lacrosse team this spring. Drew played in four games and tallied three saves for Kean.
    The Cougars were 10-7 overall with a 3-3 record at home. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference they were 3-3 as well.
    Shannon Turner (Vernon High School) was a sophomore for the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (Newark) women’s track and field program. Turner, listed as Chemical Engineering major who competed in throwing events, placed 10th at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championships held in Piscataway, N.J. At the A-SUN Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., she placed eighth in the shot put.
    Dalton Rimmer (Vernon High School) was a senior midfielder for the Fairleigh Dickinson University (Florham, N.J., campus) men’s lacrosse team this spring. Rimmer, listed as a Sports Administration major, started in 16 games, scored 22 goals and led the squad with 23 assists.
    The Devils had an overall record of 8-9 with a mark of 3-3 at home. In the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Division, they went 4-3. FDU played in the MAC Freedom Division Tournament, where they lost to top seeded Misericordia University in a semifinal round game held in Dallas, Pa.
    John Stellingwerf (Vernon High School) was a freshman defender for the Georgian Court University (Lakewood, N.J.) men’s lacrosse program this year. Stellingwerf competed in six games for Georgian Court.
    The Lions posted an overall mark of 5-11 with four wins on their home field.
    Stephen Margolese (Wallkill Valley High School) was a freshman for the Ramapo College (Mahwah, N.J.) men’s tennis team this past season. Margolese went 5-0 in singles competition and had a record of 3-1 in doubles competition.
    The Roadrunners were 12-8 overall, including a 4-0 mark on their home courts. In the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), they were 3-0. Ramapo won the GNAC Tournament with 5-0 victories over both Rutgers-Newark and Johnson & Wales.
