The focus of the second Member Appreciation Tournament held at the Black Bear Golf Course on Wednesday, May 21, was not on who won the tournament but was made extraordinary by three golfers in the Putting Contest.

For the first time in the history of the putting competitions three golfers were able to “ace” their putt making it necessary to have a putoff to determine the winner.

Tony Panzica scored his second ace in a row to outperform the other ace qualifiers and walk away as the day’s Putting Contest champion.

However, the second Member Appreciation Tournament also was fun for the rest of the participants.

The best total team score of 145 was carded by Gene Komorowski, John Staib, Bruce Hinchman and Bret Trenkman in the Gross Division. Second place in the division went to Phil Rottini, Ron Frost, John Smith and Gerald Bohm with a score of 149 while the team of Joe Green, Mark Kurtz, Peter Val and Frank Green finished third.

The team of Raymond Ketch, Leonard Weber and Hugh Granade captured first place in the Net Division with a total score of 69. Second place went to Marck Sienkiewicz, Steve Lindsey, Steven Pezzino and Dave Gutfeld with a score of 71 with third-place honors going to Donna Wallerius, Robert Wallerius, Peter Foley and Mark Dudley.

The winners of the closest to the pin competition were Peter Foley with a 2” 11” shot on hole No. 7 and Dave Gutfiel with his tee shot landing 4 inches from the pin. Men’s long drive winner was Buddy Rottini with Buffy Whiting picking up the long drive prize for the ladies.

The fun Brews & Birdies Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 14at the Wild Turkey Golf Club which will follow a 2-player scramble format with prizes awarded in both gross and net divisions. The next Crystal Springs Resort’s Member Appreciation Tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25 at Ballyowen. Tee off is scheduled for 2 p.m. as a shotgun start.
