She'll take Vernon any day

To the editor: As the crisp autumn air fills our senses, I find myself in awe at the balance of progress and serenity of our beautiful community.  The opening ceremonies of our long awaited park and athletic complex will bring to fruition the hours of dedicated work of many parents in this community. At the forefront of these efforts, one name comes to mind as a former athlete himself, who knew the importance of bringing this project to its completion.  Neil Desmond has been the subject of criticism by an obstructionist viewed member of our area. The weekly erroneous badgering only discredits her more and more in my eyes. Sept. 23 and Sept 30’s opinion pieces in the AIM filled with negativity about Vernon and comparing it to Warwick hit a chord in my heart that I’m sure many parents with children here in town will support. Ms. Palladini, you fail to see what Vernon is truly all about. Wake up and look around you.  The heart and soul of our town is its children. Yes, Warwick has lovely antique shops and art galleries, but it does not have the same challenges that face our town council which has 68 square miles filled with families who have children. The children need recreation areas and athletic activities to provide them with the structure and family support that will lead them into their adult years to become productive, family-oriented parents themselves. As elections approach, I see a candidate in Neil Desmond who shares these views and has been steadfast in his approach to advocate for our children.  I also know that beyond his vision for the children, is his vision for our town’s center to bring our seniors closer to the heart of town into affordable housing.  As I approach my retirement years, I know that this vision and advocacy is important to many around me. If art galleries and boutiques and bistros are what you’re looking for Jessi then I’m sure there is a realtor in Warwick who will be happy to show you around.  I’ll take my “Home Sweet Home” in Vernon.
