Boy Scouts from Troop 912 presented the colors at Vernon’s Feb. 26 Township Committee meeting. As part of celebrating 100 years of Scouting in the United States, the boys also reported on the status of Scouting in Vernon. There are currently 122 Cub Scouts and 61 Boy Scouts in Vernon; 123 merit badges were awarded; 205 rank advancements were recognized and one Scout attained the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Chris DiPietro, assistant senior patrol leader of the troop, reported that this is a disappointing number considering the size of Vernon. He requested that the public spread the word about Scouting to try to get more boys involved.
