SCCC has film studies degree

    Newton — Sussex County Community College will introduce a communication/film studies degree option this upcoming fall semester, as part of its Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Liberal Studies program. The new degree is designed to be interdisciplinary in nature, drawing on the combined skills of professors from the journalism, broadcasting and fine arts options at SCCC and will be inaugurated with a new course, The Gothic in Literature and the Cinema, offered as a communications and film studies elective, as well as an English and liberal arts elective. “As a popular art form, film is a prominent medium in our society,” said Gary Mielo, associate professor of journalism and English, creator of the Gothic course.
