Public hearing to be held

Newton — A public hearing on the Petition of PSE&G for the Susquehanna - Roseland project is to be held at the Sussex County Community College Theater on June 18, at 7 p.m. A public hearing provides a number of opportunities. Here are just a few: Discuss how this project would directly affect you, your property value, your children, the health and safety of your community, and the adverse impact on your local environment. Discuss your safety concerns due to increased EMFs, as well as concerns regarding construction of 190-plus foot high towers within a 150-foot wide right-of-way. If PSE&G has an easement across your property, question whether or not this greatly expanded usage is allowed by this easement. This project is completely contrary to what is outlined in New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan. Mention the fact that this project increases reliance on out-of-state coal-generated energy, and that new, green electric generation through local solar and offshore wind projects, are a better solution. Mention also that implementing demand-side management through smart appliances and a smart grid is a preferable means of decreasing demand during peak energy usage - not continually increasing transmission capacity to meet greater and greater peak needs. Question why this massive expansion is needed, since electric demand has been decreasing the past few years.
