Police seek hit and run driver
Vernon Township Police are looking for information from anyone who witnessed a crash on Route 517 near Maple Grange Road on Saturday, Oct. 10 at about 4:30 p.m. Police are trying to identify the driver and passenger of a dark colored Saab that tried to pass a car on Route 517 South, forcing it off the road and crashing into a phone pole. Those with information should call Vernon Township Police at 973-764-6155. Vernon Police say that the victim, a 17-year-old female from Vernon, was heading south on Route 517 near the intersection of Maple Grange Road, when she was passed on the left, over the double yellow center line, by a dark colored Saab with New Jersey license plates. The driver of that car was described as a younger looking adult male with a female front seat passenger. Due to oncoming traffic, the Saab swerved back into the southbound lane and forced the 17-year-old female driver to run off of the road and hit a telephone pole. She was injured in the crash. Other drivers reported that the driver of the Saab was seen slowing down and then leaving the area at a high rate of speed continuing south on Route 517.
