Glenwood — A young pianist will honor Vernon’s special education students in a solo classical piano recital on Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m., at the Glenwood Baptist Church, on Route 565. Alex Kochman, a junior at Vernon High School, has been on a mission of sharing the joy of music with the special education children at the Walnut Ridge School. For the past three years, he has committed himself to playing for the students on a weekly basis. Each week the students welcomed him with a smile and the teachers appreciated his ability to enrich their program through the therapeutic value of music. This Saturday, Alex will perform a recital featuring works from several periods of music. Works by the following composers will be presented: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Joplin. Alex has studied piano for the past eight years with Margaret Korczynski of McAfee. The event is open to the public. There is no fee to attend, but donations are welcome and all proceeds will be given to the Walnut Ridge Special Education program. Refreshments will be served after the concert. For more information, call Alex at 973-702-3622 or Margaret at 973-827-9726.
