New councilman has desire to serve
OGDENSBURG-Because of his interest in community affairs and desire to expand his participation in the activities of the Borough, John Kociuba "decided it was the right time" to run for office. That decision paid off when Kociuba won a seat on the Borough Council in the November election. Kociuba, who will take office in January, will take over from Council President John Fierro, who is leaving the council after two terms. Kociuba brings two years of experience gained as a member of the zoning board and says he is looking forward to serving in a greater capacity. "I decided to run because of something my father said: If you're going to complain about something then get elected and make a difference,'" said Kociuba. "I knew the Council seat was being vacated. Being on the zoning board, I saw a lot of things, and I just wanted to be able to help." It was the perfect time. Kociuba and his family - wife Barbara and children Joseph and Janet - moved to Ogdensburg from Bergen County in 1986. His interests are varied, from computers to golf. He and his wife are motorcycle enthusiasts and often take extended trips such as the one they made last summer to Vermont.
