New card informs women about perinatal depression

    Trenton — A “Speak Up When You’re Down” palm card, listing several signs of perinatal depression, will be distributed through beauty salons, YMCAs and Jewish Community Centers across the state. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has produced this card, in English and Spanish, in an effort to educate women on the signs and resources available for treating postpartum depression (PPD) and other perinatal mood disorders, which can affect women before, during and after pregnancy. Sussex County locations include: Crystal Springs Resort & Spa, Route 94 & 2 Charmonix Drive, Vernon Cutting Crew, 205 Route 23 North, Store #5, Sussex Pro Cutters, 282 Route 23, Franklin The card directs people who need help to the statewide Family Helpline (1-800-328-3838), which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions about perinatal mood disorders (PMDs) and available resources. The card also lists the comprehensive informational Web site at www.njspeakup.gov.
