Mother and Me' program awarded grant to expand services

LAFAYETTE The Sunrise House Foundation has been awarded a $939,030 contract by the Division of Addiction Services to expand the its “Mother and Me” program. The resident component is a partnership between Sunrise House Foundation, the New Jersey Division of Addiction Services and the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services. The treatment program component is an extended care treatment program for pre- and post-partum women who have been identified as being addicted to, or at high risk for relapse involving drug and alcohol due to poor coping skills and multiple stressors present in the life of mother and child. This funding will provide services for eight residential long term women and children substance abuse treatment beds, six halfway house substance abuse treatment beds in Franklin Borough Home and five intensive outpatient treatment slots as the Lafayette site. The expansion of these programs is within the existing licensed bed capacity and will allow for the use of under-utilized beds and space. Officials aid since over 33 percent of child abuse and neglect cases substantiated by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services involve at least one care-giver with a known substance abuse problem, and almost two children per 100,000 die from abuse and neglect, the “Mother and Me” Program will focus on the treatment of chemical dependency and the rehabilitation of mothers and children at high risk for neglect and abuse.
