Mierendorf is a popular college president

A picnic serving as a combination welcome back to school and a recruiting day for school clubs was held Thursday, Sept. 24 at Sussex County Community College. While walking through the crowd college president Constance Mierendorf was approached by many students and asked to pose for a photograph with them. She complied but was curious as to her enormous popularity this semester. “I found out that as part of the Foundations for Success class the students had to be photographed with the college president,” said Mierendorf explaining all the photographers. Mierendorf had many chances to flash her smile. “The college has 11.1 percent more students this semester than last year,” she said. Taking advantage of the good weather, the hungry crowd ate almost 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers at the picnic that day. The band West Gate provided the entertainment. John Church
