Making a statement for peace

Lounsberry Hollow Middle School celebrated The United Nations International Day of Peace with a special program — Pinwheels For Peace. All of the students and staff created pinwheels and together they planted them in front of the school. Art teacher Joanne Portner told the assembled group that in doing this act, they’re part of a world-wide art installation. A simple definition of peace can be: a state of calm and serenity, with no anxiety, the absence of violence and freedom from conflict or disagreement among people or groups of people. Whatever it means to each of us as individuals, by placing our pinwheels together today, let us pledge our hope for peace.”
