NEWTON — Newton Main Street will officially launch the new SpringBoard Shoppes located at 145 Spring Street on Friday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. Festivities will begin with the mayor and council performing a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the SpringBoard, with a reception to follow. In addition, events will take place throughout the weekend, including a chance to win a Mother Moon Baby Boutique basket full of children’s spring clothing from LeTop, half-hour color typing sessions with Robin Lennon of Inner Designs, as well as live broadcasting, giveaways and prizes from WSUS. Also opening is Laura Lynn’s, gifts and cards for all occasions. “It is a very exciting time for Main Street Newton as we celebrate the opening of three new retail businesses,” said Executive Director Jim Sheldon, The SpringBoard Shoppes serve as a retail incubator, a launching pad for new retailers and is a shared business environment. The goal is to have from six to eight retailers at any given time in the Shoppes. In addition to initial low rents and an innovative work environment, retail entrepreneurs receive individualized and group training in retail management. The new businesses may even be eligible for low interest loans in order to jump start their endeavors. Once tenants have become established and understand the ins and outs of running a retail business, they graduate to a space of their own in downtown Newton.
