The Sussex County Quilters, a local group of the Quilts of Valor, will present present a quilt to Eddie Mindlin at the Franklin Fire Department on Veterans Day evening.

Mindlin is a World War II veteran and very active in the fire department.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comfort and healing.

The Sussex County Quilters Quilts of Valor, in association with the Warwick Valley Quilters’ Guild, has awarded quilts to service men and women all over the country, including those serving overseas and those in veterans hospitals.

This project is possible through the donations of fabric, the hours of work, and the enthusiasm of the members of the Warwick Guild. Monetary donations from many generous individuals also help to purchase fabric to complete the quilts.

For the past eight summers, the local group shared a booth at the New Jersey State Fair, Augusta, New Jersey. Many people stopped by the booth to sign a block or two.

Men and women who served our Country, proudly wearing their caps and/or jackets, stopped to chat and say that this was a wonderful way to honor those serving today,” said Carol A. Johnson of Stockholm. “Completed beautiful quilts were hung up and around the booth. From the signature blocks signed at the Fairgrounds, more Quilts of Valor were stitched up and made ready to be awarded.”

The group has made 257 quilts since August 2011, and more are in the process of being finished and awarded.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation has awarded 283,763 quilts since 2003 to servicemen, women and veterans by volunteers either singly or at group presentations at schools, churches or veteran’s organizations.

The Sussex County Quilters meets the third Wednesday of every month to make quilts at the Vernon PAL building, Vernon. For more information visit qovf.org or email Johnson at caroljnusa@hotmail.com.
