Fifth-grade students in Andrea Kovalsky and Leighann Hagemann’s science class at Franklin Borough School completed a unit on simple and complex carbohydrates.

After learning about all the good and bad foods that contain sugars, lipids, and starches, they performed an experiment to actually see which foods contain a lot of or no carbohydrates. The children were amazed to learn that most of their snack foods eaten contained sugars and starches.
