Special election to decide $5.3 million upgrade for Wallkill Valley High School

A special school election will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28, for the voters in the boroughs of Franklin, Hamburg, Ogdensburg and the Township of Hardyston, who will be be voting on improvements to the facilities at Wallkill Valley Regional High School.

Polls will be open between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The proposed upgrades include auditorium renovations, HVAC upgrades, shop room upgrades, fire alarm upgrades, locker replacements, and site improvements, including at the football field and the tennis courts.

The board is authorized to expend up to $5.3 million, which will be funded with bonds of the school district. The state has agreed to provide debt service aid of 40 percent of the final eligible costs. The final eligible costs are $4.5 million.

The project includes $805,766 for school facilities construction elements in addition to the facilities efficiency standards developed by the Commissioner of Education, or that are not otherwise eligible for State support pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:7G-5(g).
