Shop owner offers instructions on new paint technique
LAFAYETTE — A decorative paint that can be applied to any surface?
When Patti Bruterri, owner of Sweet Pea’s Antiques and Designs heard about this, she knew she just had to investigate. Bruterri has always enjoyed making over old pieces of furniture, and this seemed like a dream come true.
Chalk Paint Decorative Paint was developed by British painter and author, Annie Sloan more than 20 years ago.
It has been in the U.S. for more than three years and has developed a cult-like following due in part to how easy it is to use.
Chalk Paint can be applied to any surface — inside or out — without any preparation, sanding or stripping, saving a lot of time and money.
Old tired furniture, metal urns, terra cotta planters, ceramic lamps, leather, concrete, fabric and more can be transformed using this low VOC paint.
Many days, Bruterri can be found at the shop transforming furniture and accessories using Chalk Paint.
The paint, waxes, brushes, books and more can be purchased at Sweet Pea’s.
Bruterri is a certified instructor in the use and application of Chalk Paint.
Workshops are offered on a regular basis, and information may be found on www.sweetpeasantiques.com.
