Senior citizen dance a success in Jefferson

Even before 4 p.m., people starting excitedly coming in to the Jefferson Township high school. Food was laid out under the very able guidance of Gabe (the tuba player), the band was setting up, and the photo booth was glittering with silver stars and lights. Christy, the bass player’s girl, was greeting and seating and being the hostess-for-a-day. The event was sold out thanks to the word-of-mouth advertising of the Seniors Clubs on both sides of town.

It was the beginning of an evening with a variety of food all donated by more than 26 township restaurants. The senior audience was up dancing right away to big-band music provided by Pete Tummillo and the Jefferson Community Jazz Band, opening with the evening’s theme song, Bing Crosby’s "Swinging on a Star."

Thanks to Jefferson Twp. students who that morning decorated with pictures of Bing, tons of stars, silver and fuchsia accents, and glittering “chandeliers”, the cafeteria was transformed into a temporary ballroom. There was line dancing and slow dancing and the highlight of the evening was the Lakeland Seniors dancing to their “theme” song of Neil Diamond’s "Sweet Caroline."
