Salute to Military Veterans is Nov. 7

The Sussex County Commissioners on Oct. 27 issued a proclamation that Sunday, Nov. 7, will be the 21st Annual Salute to Military Veterans.

According to the proclamation, the day is a for paying special tribute to veterans, their families, and neighbors and friends celebrating together.

Don Devore, a member of the county Veterans Committee and the Ogdensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars, thanked the committee, the county’s veterans and the committee.

“I don’t know that there are any other counties in New Jersey that pay quite as grand tribute as you do, and we thank you for that,” Devore said. “All I can say is, please do remember those people still in uniform and they’re all over the world. They’re not alone, believe me. They need our prayers. They need our thoughts.”

Commissioner Herbert Yardley, whose son has served in Korea and Afghanistan, said the veterans come home changed by their service overseas.

“We are very fortunate that we have those young men and women that volunteer their service,” Yardley said. “And those that were drafted and served admirably to protect this country, we want all you to know we appreciate that.”
