Relive Summer Fun at the Sussex County Y Camp Reunion This Friday

| 13 Jan 2016 | 01:18

While the calendar says it's January, summer is on tap at the Sussex County YMCA's free summer camps reunion on Friday night. Campers ages 7 and up are invited to reconnect with friends and enjoy swimming, camp games, crafts, pizza and more from 7 to 9 p.m.

From the traditional to the specialized, Sussex County Y camps build campers' self-esteem, confidence and social skills in a fun, safe and enriching environment. Children from ages 3 through 15 develop independence and wellness awareness through developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences.

Families can choose from Junior Y Camp, Kids Y Camp, Teen Y Camp and the Counselor-in Training Camp and the Y's popular sports camps, which will be held on the Y campus. (The sports camps were previously held at the Walkill Valley High School.) And now, those half-day sports camps can be expanded to full days, adding afternoons of traditional day camp activities that include swimming.

Children interested in a sleep-away camp experience with lake swimming, archery, hiking and horseback riding but who want to spend nights at home would enjoy the Ys Blue Mountain Day Camp at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps in Stillwater Township. The Y provides busing with pickup and dropoff at numerous locations throughout Sussex County.

As a special offer, parents who register their children for the 2016 summer camp season by Jan. 31 will pay 2015 rates.

All Sussex Y camps are accredited by the American Camp Association. Reading time and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) lessons are incorporated into all curriculums.
