Noisy fundraiser helps firefighters

HAMBURG — The sound of revving engines combined with the sight and smell of thick, black exhaust as car and truck junkies gathered at the Hamburg Fireman’s Pavilion on Saturday to have their vehicles run on Axcelerated Motorsports’ dynamometer.

With a $100 donation to the Hamburg Fire Department, each performance enthusiast would get his vehicle run on the machine, which tests for horsepower and torque. The results were then graphed out on a computer monitor and printed for the owner.

“This is the first time we’ve done this but we hope to make it an annual event,” said Hamburg volunteer firefighter Keith Sukennikoff, who organized the event along with Devin Vogel and assistant chief Charlie Zweigle.

While the event ended up getting washed out after only nine vehicles got to run on the machine, Sukennikoff said, “We raised a little money and that’s all that matters.”

The Hamburg Fire Department is now working out a day to reschedule the event with Axcelerated Motorsports so that the remainder of the fundraiser can take place.

Helping out with the event and having their performance diesel trucks run on the dyno was North Jersey’s own Big Time Kustomz, a company that specializes in truck performance. Ogdensburg native Dave Radzierez was also in attendance with his XDP Extreme Diesel Performance monster truck on display. Rounding out the event was Advanced Auto Parts of Franklin, holding raffles and giving door prizes of store gift certificates.
