Nation's first kids only ski facility going strong

Vernon resident Conor Stanbridge leads kids from the Sussex County YMCA up the stairs to the warm and welcoming lodge for their second skiing lesson.

Ski instructor Stephanie Arendarski of Highland Lakes offers some very animated pointers to the visiting YMCA children.

Robert Molinet of Stillwater is a member of The CenterþÄôs lift department and spent the afternoon motivating the beginner skiers.

The inside of the lodge offers a warm and cozy atmosphere.
VERNON — Nearly 200 children had there introduction to skiing on Sunday at the National Winter Activity Center.
The afternoon session included about 150 children from various YMCA Metro Group centers including Sussex County, East Orange, West Essex, Wayne, Fairview Lake, and South Mountain. The Sussex Country group included 19 children.
For the Sussex County group it was their second session following last weekend’s basic introductory lessons. The Center is at the site of the former Hidden Valley Ski Resort.
