Library to host touch-a-truck

The Sussex County Main Library in Frankford will host its 10th Annual Touch-A-Truck event on Friday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to noon. Families are invited to get up close and personal with a wide variety of emergency vehicles, buses and trucks.

There were over 200 attendees at last year’s event, climbing in and out of vehicles while their operators answered questions about the how they work and the tasks they perform.

“It’s my first year organizing this event,” stated new Youth Services Coordinator, Leigh Wilkinson. “I’m amazed at how excited all the drivers are to participate. I expected the kids to be excited. Who wouldn’t want to pretend they are operating a backhoe? But the operators really enjoy it as well, and look forward to explaining their equipment and what it can do.”

September is also National Library Card Signup Month and staff will be on hand to help any attendees who are not already Sussex County Library cardholders.

“Trucks are actually a great lead-in to reading,” stated Mr. Wilkinson. “We’ve got all kinds of books about all kinds of trucks, with the right help it’s easy to find something to interest even the pickiest reader. Some children are reluctant readers until you find the book that matches their interest. If it’s trucks, we’ve got you covered.”

Touch-A-Truck is held, rain or shine, in the side lot of the Main Library, located at 125 Morris Turnpike in Frankford. Come any time between 11 a.m. and noon, no registration required.
